This lecture is designed for teachers and researchers who deal with the history and development of Latin and Greek medical terminology.

Helen King is Professor of Classical Studies at The Open University, Milton Keynes, and
for the past 6 years has also been a Visiting Professor at the Plymouth University
Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dental Surgery. Professor King published widely on
the history of gynaecology and obstetrics from the ancient world to the nineteenth
century, including hysteria, green-sickness (chlorosis) and man-midwifery. She is
interested in the reception of ancient medicine in later periods, including the development
of medical terminology and the place of human dissection in medical knowledge.
